"Black River Depths" was one of 5 works of ours selected to be displayed at an art exhibit at the Wichita Falls Museum of Art titled "Artists Who Collaborate," curated by Danny Bills. It was a collaboration between me and my sculptor husband, Geoffrey Novelli. Geoff formed the shape and I honed it -- still in its pre-bisque state -- to look a bit like a fish, yet not totally like one, as the abstract surfaces were what the 'statement' was about. The actual Black River depths are not at all "pretty." They are murky and covered with seaweed. An occasion eel will slither through and startle a reluctant 'swimmer' who might be in the water to retrieve a boat oar or a softball. Nevertheless, the Black River is 'my' river, as it is the one I am most familiar with. It runs through my home town of South Haven, Michigan.
