"Strangers on a Barren Shore" is a phrase from a hymnal from our Church that aptly describes this small sculpture.  The work 'happened' when I began to twist into shapes a new type of raku clay that I was introduced to. The shapes became small figures.  In pondering the plight of refugees, Syrian families in particular, I found myself doing this whole "mini-installation" of figures in various awkward poses looking as though they were on a high sandbar awaiting a rescue boat as the waves were lapping at the sides.  How many of us, metaphorically, have felt that way in real life in particular situations when we have been in a tight spot?
