I painted this watercolor the day that Aretha Franklin, the Queen of Soul, passed from this life. Her words kept resonating with me from my favorite song of hers, I Say a Little Prayer: "Forever, forever, you'll stay in my heart and I will love you.." She deserved every rose she was ever given. These flowers were painted against a backdrop of my friends, Gigi and Joe Gavron's summer home on Lake Lanark, Illinois. The weeping willow tree is one of their property's most distinctive characteristics.
