"Crystal Winter"

This painting was begun on location at around 6 in the morning in a state park near Crystal Lake, Illinois.  It was sub-zero weather outside, and my water froze on the paper!  When the paper thawed, it produced some interesting 'crackling' effects in the distance, which I retained.  After that I used rubbing alcohol as my 'sub-zero solvent!'  To make the piece less symmetrical I cut the edges irregularly and added the cut-outs that I'd painted of dried milkweed pods, which project 3-dimensionally.
