Three weeks after my mother passed on, the phrase "dark cocoon" came to me and I wrote a poem with that title.
She was a very vibrant person and in many of my works in previous before her passing I would honor her by painting a monarch butterfly somewhere in the composition. My mood was very dark and somber when I did this 3-dimensional watercolor, but the thought of her being 'cocooned' comforted me, as there would somewhere in the next realm be a 'monarch butterfly' morphing out of the cocoon. Her buoyant spirit indeed lives on.
