The Missouri farmlands are in the distance, and the Mississippi River provides convenient 'white space' between the farmlands and the prairie grasses on the bluffs. A few stalks of wheat are strategically placed in the foreground, as a sheaf of wheat is symbolic of Principia's motto, "As the Sowing."
