I was urged to create "Family Boat Escape" when I saw several harrowing stories on the news about the treacherous ways that families try to leave countries with impossibly oppressive regimes. In this work, a mother, father, and a child are escaping in a barely reliable boat. They are have crossed treacherous waters, but are in danger of being marrooned on a sandbar, as can be seen by the sea creatures amidst the craggy coral next to the vessel. Determined, the mother will most likely find a way out.
