Dunstan, a dignified old cat, was 17 years old when I painted him in 2016 as a commission for some good friends. I studied him for an entire afternoon before beginning this painting of him. His slightly crossed eyes, the characteristic way he held his left paw, and the manner in which he curled his tail around the silver tray were all part of what was 'quintessential Dunstan.' He closed his eyes for good this in 2018, leaving his owner a trail of very happy memories.
