This bridge in Florence, Italy is a favorite of many people. It is literally covered with crowds of people and specialty shops. I happily painted it in 2004 with several local on-lookers. One well-meaning gentleman kept giving me unsolicited advice about the wierd perspective of the thick brick pointed bridge supports. Reminiscing on experiencing this bridge for the first time since my days of Principia Art Abroad, I recall that it connects the Uffizi Gallery to the Pitti Palace, as one of the Medici dukes was paranoid about possible assassination. Most people do not know that the part of the covered bridge that connects the two buildings contains a gallery of self-portraits by Renaissance and Baroque artists. People are seldom taken there because the substructure is deemed unreliable; however, Mr. James Green, our painting professor and watercolorist extraordinaire, had wonderful connections that broke through many barriers. I will never forget him.
